Hello!
I’m delighted that you want to invite me to speak at your event. I love talking with people about the human factor in cyber security, the socio-technical challenges faced by our society today, effective leadership in complex circumstances, and the application of developing tech to societal challenges.
Here is some helpful information on what I need, to be able to deliver my best.
Note: if you’re inviting me to speak on your podcast, you can skip this. It’s specifically for conferences and corporate events.
Cost & Expenses
I require flights, ground transportation, and accommodation to be covered for all engagements.
- Flights, ground transportation and accommodation should be booked up front, not reimbursed. If I am booking my own flights, I expect to be reimbursed promptly, not after the event.
- For any flights longer than 4 hours, I require a Business ticket. For flights less than 4 hours I also usually fly Business Class however, I am open to considering Premium Economy depending on the situation. My preferred airline is British Airways. We'll need to agree whether you'd like me to book my own flights and you'll reimburse me, or whether you will book the flights (using my frequent flyer number provided by my EA).
- Hotel rooms must be non-smoking, with good wifi and a suitable working area / desk and ergonomic chair. All room expenses including taxes and incidentals should be covered. I have a preference for Marriott’s if possible. My EA will provide you with my Bonvoy points membership number.
- Ideally the hotel will be the same hotel the event is taking place in, otherwise, no more than a 10 minute walk away from the venue, please.
- For meals & expenses, some conferences prefer to offer a daily per diem instead of collecting receipts for reimbursing expenses such as meals. I am happy to adhere to this system if meals are provided.
- I usually charge a fee to speak. That fee may vary according to the ticket price. Unless otherwise agreed in writing, I require the fee payment to be made in full at least two weeks ahead of the event.
- That being said, my fee is open to negotiation, especially for non-profit, social initiatives and charity-related events.
Stage & Tech Specs
- For any group more than 25 people, I need a microphone. I prefer a lavalier, lapel, or headset over a handheld mic.
- I prefer to present from my own laptop where possible: a relatively modern MacBook Pro. My laptop supports both HDMI and USB-C outputs.
- I generally use Google Slides for my presentations. Please provide a USB remote “clicker”. I am able to prepare presentations in Microsoft PowerPoint if required. My slide aspect ratio is 16:9. Please let me know if the projector requires different.
- I’ll let you and your technical team know well in advance if my presentation includes any audio or video and will test the connection and volume at the technical check before my talk.
- For MCs, I have provided a set of biographies that can be used to introduce me on stage in the Press kit section.
